Who is considered the father of Western philosophy?

Thales of Miletus (c. 624-546 BC) is considered the first Western philosopher to seek natural rather than mythological explanations for phenomena. He was the first of the pre-Socratic philosophers and founder of the Milesian school, which attempted to explain nature without resorting to the gods.
