How much do you know about Linguistics: Curiosities and Origin of Words?Nicaraguan Sign Language (ISN) is an extraordinary case study. Before the 1980s, deaf children in Nicaragua were isolated. When the first special schools were created, hundreds of children gathered for the first time. Without an established sign language, they began to communicate using the homemade gestures that each one brought. Linguists observed how, on the playground, younger children took this 'pidgin' of gestures and spontaneously transformed it into a complete and complex sign language with its own grammar. It is considered a rare example of observing the birth of a language.
