Who created the Python language?

Python was created by Guido van Rossum, a Dutch programmer who began developing it as a hobby project during the Christmas holidays in 1989. The language's name is inspired by the British comedy group Monty Python, not the snake. Van Rossum was known as Python's 'Benevolent Dictator for Life' until he retired from this role in 2018.
